Job Description  

Respiratory Services Manager  

JOB SUMMARY  

  Directs and coordinates respiratory therapy activities of the establishment. Administers respiratory care services.  

  ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS  

  • Strict adherence to the Company policy and procedure manual including state and federal laws  
  • Able to perform all duties of the staff Respiratory Therapist. 
  • Reviews and Qualifies Patients per insurance guidelines for Respiratory Equipment. 
  • Reviews respiratory care orders to ascertain correct setting requirements. 
  • Discusses provision or modification of patients' equipment or supplies with ordering providers, patients, and referral sources.
  • Arranges for respiratory care services at customer's location for the setup of equipment.  
  • Monitors RT staff to observe employee's demeanor, technical accuracy, competency and conformity to company policies. 
  • 5-day patient phone follow-ups on all new ventilator and airway clearance therapy patients. 
  • Answers questions about service. 
  • Determines and assesses work procedures, and best practice. 
  • Issues written and oral instructions. 
  • Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of subordinates. 
  • Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances. 
  • Complies with all Local, State, and Federal Regulations (ACHC, FDA, Federal, State, AARC guidelines,etc.) 
  • Assists in developing job descriptions, recruiting, selecting, and evaluating personnel that meet the specific job description of Respiratory Therapist. 
  • Establish, implement, and monitor Respiratory Therapists’ practices relating to working hours, conduct, documentation, and when justified, disciplinary action and/or termination. 
  • Educate Respiratory Therapist and other staff on the laws, codes, and regulations that pertain to the services and equipment provided by the company and monitor compliance. 
  • Work with the Senior Director of Operations and Director of Patient Distribution to plan, develop, and implement all policies and procedures for the effective operation of the respiratory services department and the effectiveness of care and services to the customer. 
  • Develop, maintain, and edit the customer plan of service as needed. 
  • Audits Patients’ Ventilator Charts
  • Educate all staff on equipment use, care, and proper documentation. 
  • Educates all staff on the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment. 
  • Annually review all related policies and procedures for proper implementation and compliance. 
  • Will be trained to assist in conducting an annual employee evaluation and field review of Respiratory Therapist. 
  • Plan and conduct monthly department meetings to allow for communication and sharing of information. 
  • Evaluate inventory levels and procure equipment through the Biomed and Purchasing departments to maintain adequate stock levels. 
  • Will participate in weekly rotation of on-call Respiratory Therapist duties. Frequency of on-call will vary based on number of current full-time Respiratory Therapists. 
  • Perform other duties as deemed appropriate by management. 
  • Address errors and complaints from staff and customers. 
  • Communicates with and treats company’s customers of various ages.  
  • Participates in Improvement of Operational Performance (IOP) activities. 
  • Participates in traditional and e-learning programs.  
  • Works effectively with other company employees, managers, and departments.  
  • Performs all job functions with Company Mission, Vision, and Goal Statements in mind.  

  JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Certificate, and Licensure  

Registered Respiratory Therapist meeting state licensing requirements, or RN with minimum five years strong management and/or healthcare industry related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. The completion of an approved school for Respiratory Therapy. Applicant will be required to obtain and maintain active clinical licensure in the states of Maryland, Delaware, District of Columbia, Virginia, and West Virginia. 

Requirements 

Must demonstrate proficient ability and practical knowledge of computers, software, and products applicable to the industry. Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Additionally, the applicant is expected to demonstrate the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of departmental program structure (Mission, Vision, and Goal Statements) and department policies and procedures.  Must be able to work a flexible schedule, as needed, and have the ability to demonstrate effective time management skills while working independently with minimal supervision. Must be detail oriented and able to oversee details in all aspects of Respiratory Care and Performance Improvement, including staff positions. Knowledge of billing procedures regarding homecare.  

Math Ability 

Must demonstrate proficient ability to apply mathematical concepts such as basic algebra and geometry to such tasks as calculating figures and amounts, discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume to practical situations.   

Supervisory Requirements 

Must demonstrate proficient ability to directly supervise Respiratory Services Department and/or Division personnel in a manner consistent with Company policies and applicable laws.  Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Language and Communication Ability

Must demonstrate proficient ability to foster professional working relationships utilizing strong interpersonal and communication skills organization-wide. Applicant must demonstrate the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and/or governmental regulations and effectively present and debate any assortment of information relevant to their area of expertise and designated responsibilities and duties with members of the Company and on behalf of the Company when appropriate. Additionally, the applicant must demonstrate the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Must communicate clearly and accurately in the English language.  

Physical Demands 

Must demonstrate the ability to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, which may include, but is not limited to: computers, fax and copy machines, and other office supplies.  Requires stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; strength to lift a minimum of 50 pounds from squatting to standing position; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone; manual dexterity to perform job functions and stamina to frequently sit for extended periods of time.  Additionally, the employee is occasionally required to walk and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  

Reasoning Ability 

Must demonstrate proficient ability to understand, apply, and interpret an extensive array of technical information, variables, and instruction where only limited standardization exists to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  

Technology Skills 

Must demonstrate proficient ability and practical knowledge of personal computer use, word processing software and system software. Additionally, the applicant must demonstrate the ability to quickly and proficiently learn to use company-specific software programs and any other handheld or technology tools as required for completing job tasks. 

ORIENTATION 

Successfully complete the Company orientation program within 90 days of employment.  Familiarity with all Company policies and procedures.  During the initial 90-day training/orientation period, the employee will gain this knowledge via training by qualified Company staff members, continuing education/in-service, off site training and/or independent study of the policies and procedures manual.  Employee competence in Company policies and procedures will be certified, in writing, by the supervisor or other qualified/designated individual.  Evidence of certification will be maintained in the individual personnel file or in the Company’s continuing education/in-service file. 

OTHER INFORMATION 

 Must demonstrate proficiency and productivity in a fast-paced environment with unscheduled interruptions while maintaining acceptable judgment, responsibility, and assumption for decisions, consequences, and results. Applicant must demonstrate good organization, time management, and communication skills. Occasionally an adjusted work schedule is required to accommodate company needs.

ON-GOING EDUCATION

Respiratory Services Manager must obtain the required number of continuing education credits to maintain credentials as required by their license.  Manager must also attend all field related in-services offered by the Company including, but not limited to, electronic communication equipment and copiers.
